Rainbow Over Karori Valley!

Thursday morning, 8.05 am; while putting on my socks, getting ready to take Le General to her appointment. My bedside radio announced about a giant rainbow over the Karori valley! Our aboard is over looking the valley!

Rainbow always unexpectedly appears when you’re least expecting to see one, often when rainbow do appear; you do not have a camera ;) Not this time!

I pulled the window blind and there it was, in all her glory; the rainbow!

I grabbed my OM-D E-M5, it had the Lumix 7-14 ultra-wide; fine... I turn on the camera, it says "card error!" What the ?#$%^  Quick card  eject and reinsert, now OK!

Went outside the front door onto the deck, the rainbow is starting to fade and disappear!  Grab shoot as fast as I can go... this is NOT good!

This was shot with my LUMIX G VARIO 7-14/F4.0 at 14mm (28mm equiv) at F6.3 1/200 ISO 200.

I remember back in 2009, after seeing one of my rainbow shot; Heather, my work colleague reminisces...

"It is good to see that there are people who take an interest in the REAL WORLD..which is our surroundings..landscape,environment,

How many even notice rainbows anymore,,let alone capture them on film?The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the rainbow's end originated somewhere in old Europe. In Silesia, an obscure area of eastern Europe, it was said that the angels put the gold there and that only a nude man could obtain the prize. Hmm.....Can you go under a rainbow's arch and come out the other side? Not according to the laws of physics. A rainbow is all light and water. It is always in front of you while your back is to the sun.

However, there is an old European belief that anyone passing beneath the rainbow would be transformed, man into woman, woman into man! Hmm..."

Then as mystical as it arrive, my rainbow disappeared!

Only to reappear in even more colourful intensity 20 minutes later!

This time round, I got my Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 on the OM-D for some tighter shots...

This time round, see how much more intense the colour is! I can see the rainbow intensity slowly increase and I also know any moment now it can disappear!!  I change back to my 7-14 ultra-wide...

Picture Perfect... rainbow over Karori valley.  Shot with my LUMIX G VARIO 7-14/F4.0 @ f8 1/200 ISO 200.  It is not everyday you can see a perfect rainbow over our valley!  Wish me a rainbow :)

My Heart Leaps Up
My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Wow! That`s so cool!Call it serendipity, being in the right place at the right time, and with a camera at hand.
It`s interesting that you refer to the rainbow as "she".. of course anything that beautiful and curvy and colorful would have to be a `she`!
I think I may have passed under a rainbow sometime lately because I`m sure I`m turning into a man!..(deep voice, hair growth,grumpy with a predilection for fish and chips.)
