On our recent break in Malaysia, we decided to spend three nights in Singapore; before we head home to Wellington.
The last time we were in this island nation was 6 years ago! Goodness, the Little Red Dot has changed; a lot, from what we remembered!
The most eye catching building is the Marina Bay Sands which jut out like a sore thumb, in my view; not a very attractive structure ;)
However, two days later; we were taken up to the KU DÉ TA restaurant up at Marina Bay Sands Sky Park, and the panoramic view really impressed me!
My sworn brother, best friend for FIFTY years told us the cityscape of his beloved nation is even more stunning, at night!
To prove his point, he took us on the Singapore River Cruise at night and the view was majestic indeed! At S$20.00 a pop, you see the Q to get on the little tug boats!
Singapore definitely has some impressive architecture! But buildings are buildings.. this little island city has some of the most exotic cars!
Where else are you able to see a spanking red Ferrari parked outside the restaurant you are having lunch! AND across the road, TWO Lamborghini!!
On the same token, where else would a Ferrari parked under a FAKE cherry blossom tree made of concrete? ;)
Talk about owning a "dream car", my flamboyant sworn brother owns one of mine; a car I only dream about ;) Ha ha ha...
That's Moi, sitting inside the dream car; a 6th Generation Mercedese 350SL!
The new SL (R231) has been produced for the first time almost entirely from aluminium. The new aluminium bodyshell weighs around 110 kilograms less than it would using the steel!
Equipped with a 3.5L 302HP V6 banger, the lightweight convertible goes like a rocket! How do I know? I was allowed a short drive :) Wow! Exhilaration!!
Apart from properties and cars, Singaporeans are really obsess with their food!
When we arrived we were taken to the Imperial Shanghai Cuisine at the Takashimaya SC for the best Chinese roast pork and goose feet!
They might not look impressive in photos, but believe you me; they are really yummy!
Of course Singapore food do not have to be exotic to taste good, the lunch we had at Ke Zhan were simple dishes but taste great! I think they were so tasty because the simple dishes were like home cooking! Yours truly actually got some inspiration from the dishes :) (Thanks, Yik; for the treat.)
Simple dishes can be just a raw fish salad to go with a hot bowl of congee with meat balls...
Now, about the DUCK :) Not any duck, we were taken to try out the TungLok XiHE Peking duck!
You know I am a real sucker for good Peking duck and from their description, I salivate with great anticipation! More about their duck! What the duck ;)
They even explained how you should enjoy the duck!
Our fat, juicy duck came! It was carved in front of us. That is a BIG duck, such duck is impossible to find in New Zealand!
The crispy skins and the juicy meat are separated to perfection!
The important pancake and condiment to roll the duck meat came nicely presented.
What was my verdict?
Against the best Peking duck in Wellington's Mr Ji's Kitchen?
First the duck, the Singapore duck is fatter, juicier; like I say, I don't think you are able to get suck duck in NZ.
The small Wellington restaurant however, beat the Singapore chain in the all important PANCAKE!
The Singapore one, that we ate was quite dry, and they stick to each other; Mr Ji's pancakes, perfection!
Singaporeans is also obsessed with their seafood. We were treated to Jumbo Seafood before we flew home the next day.
The famous black pepper crab...
The iconic, super delicious chilli crabs with bread rolls to mop up all the yummy sauce!
According to Wikipedia..
Chilli crab is a seafood dish popular in Singapore. Mud crabs are commonly used and are stir-fried in a semi-thick, sweet and savoury tomato and chilli based sauce. Despite its name, chilli crab is not a very spicy dish. It is listed at number 35 on World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011.
Le General showing off the plate of chilli crabs, much to the amusement of my sworn brother's mum :)
So our short stay in Singapore ends with the duck and the crabs... we like to thanks my sworn bro for all the hospitalities he showered on us, 50 years we know each other; goodness, that's nearly a life time.
Great to see you again bro, hope to see you again soon!
Forever Friend!
